Central Gives Back

Central Restaurant Products is a proud supporter of the Make-a-Wish foundation, a not-for-profit organization with the “vision to grant the wish of every child diagnosed with a life-threatening medical condition” (see their “About Us” section). Every year, they recruit the help of thousands and thousands of volunteers and donors to make this vision a reality for children and families who have been dealt an unfair hand.

Central is proud to support this cause. It is our personal goal to make a wish come true for one child and their family every quarter. We like to give more than money, too. At Central, every employee receives a paid Volunteer Day every year to use to give back to their community.

For the past several years, many employees have chosen to use their Volunteer Day to participate in WZPL’s annual Make-a-Wish Request-a-thon, hosted live on air by the popular Smiley Morning Show. Through a thirty-six hour period, listeners can call in to request a song to play, and make a donation that goes directly to granting a wish. This fundraiser event is only achievable through the help of volunteers, and it is because of their determination and passion to serve that this year, the Request-a-thon was able to raise $706,145, enough to make 88 wishes come true.

TAKKT presented with Digital Champions Award

Stuttgart/Berlin, 22 June 2017. TAKKT AG was awarded first place at the Digital Champions Award in the “Digital Processes and Organization” category. The award was created by the German magazine WirtschaftsWoche and Deutsche Telekom in 2016 and has now been awarded for the second time. TAKKT impressed the jury with its comprehensive approach to digital transformation.

The award ceremony for the Digital Champions Award took place in Berlin on June 20. The award, presented jointly by WirtschaftsWoche and Deutsche Telekom, identifies medium-sized companies that are on the right track in the digital revolution. Eleven companies in four categories made it to the final round with their digital solutions and strategies. TAKKT AG was awarded first place in the “Digital Processes and Organization” category. The jury was impressed by the comprehensive approach TAKKT and its companies are pursuing for their digital transformation. Digitalization is not conceived in isolation for individual processes. Instead, it is the top priority along the entire value chain.

At the ceremony, CEO Felix Zimmermann was pleased about the award: “This represents both recognition and obligation at the same time.” Zimmermann emphasized that the development of new technologies and innovative solutions must be accompanied by a cultural change, which can only be achieved if it is supported by all employees. “My special thanks go to our employees, who have made a major contribution to this success,” said Zimmermann.

The jury consisted of high-profile representatives from business, science and the media. Alexander Dobrindt, Federal Minister for Transport and Digital Infrastructure, was the patron of the competition.

TAKKT is the leading B2B direct marketing specialist for business equipment in Europe and North America. The Group is represented with its brands in more than 25 countries. The product range of the subsidiaries comprises more than 500,000 products for the areas of plant and warehouse equipment, office furniture, transport packaging, display articles and equipment for the food service industry, hotel market and retailers. Take Your Kid to Work Day

Central Celebrates Bring Your Kid to Work Day

For the second year in a row, Central celebrated the national holiday Bring Your Son or Daughter to Work Day! It was a full house on Thursday, April 27 as Central employees, and their mini-mes, roamed the halls of our Indianapolis office. Fun was had by all as the kids, ranging in ages from four to thirteen, learned more about the foodservice industry and what it takes to run a business.

Many activities were planned to give our visitors the most insightful, interactive experience possible. Such activities included:

  • A meet and greet with the president
  • A Q&A with a panel of Central employees representing all departments
  • Mock interviews with members of our executive and management teams
  • A craft station where they could express their creativity making cards for Riley, one of our sponsored Make-a-Wish kids
  • Picking orders in the warehouse (including a ton of bubble wrapped fun!)
  • An introduction to how Central uses social media, which turned into a social media takeover

There was also an ice cream bar provided by our friends at Sani-Serv/Sesco, and concluded with a lunch catered by the good people at Phoenix Marketing.

Here’s what some of the participants had to say:

“My favorite part about today has been the job interviews because the people running them have taught me a few tips about interviewing.” – Gabe, 12

“What I like most about Central is that everyone is nice.” – Mia, 7

“My dad works at Central. Is job is to go out and fix things.” – Molly, 7

“My favorite part about today has been the interviews and social media! And hanging out with my daddy.” – Darcy, 8

“What I like most about Central is the ice cream!” – Molly, 7

Central Does the Ice Bucket Challenge!

Central’s Ice Bucket Challenge for Warriors for Wishes

Over the summer of 2014, Central employees have been working to raise $6000 for Make-A-Wish and grant a wish for a child, Maya, by August 31, 2014. Maya’s wish is to be a mermaid!

To do this, we created the campaign “Warriors for Wishes” and have 30 employees participating in the September 6 Warrior Dash in Crawfordsville, Ind. to raise money.

When we were just over halfway to our goal and had two and a half weeks left, we had to be creative to keep up our momentum. After being nominated for the ALS ice bucket challenge, IT Manager Michael Sims knew just what to do.

central ice bucket challengePutting it all Together

Over the last few weeks, the “Ice Bucket Challenge” has taken over social media and Michael thought it would be a good way for us to meet our Make-A-Wish goal and raise money internally by offering to have five gallons dumped on him for every $50 raised. This would also help ALS too once we posted the video–two great causes! We originally had two days to raise money but ended up extending it through noon on Monday August 18. (Approximately four days total).

Product Consultant Sabrina Tate, Director of Merchandising Elizabeth Price and the Category Management team (Austin Leland, Autumn Faust, Carrie Shambarger, Elizabeth Burnette, Rachel Beck) also agreed to join Michael for the challenge–not realizing that we would be able to raise enough money by our noon deadline to dump 80 gallons!

Several employees and their friends and family contributed, as well as our following vendors: Manitowoc, South Central Food Service Equipment, HRI, Advance Marketing Group, Ice-O-Matic and Allied Technologies Food Equipment Inc.

Read more about our “Warriors for Wishes” campaign and read about the “Ice Bucket Challenge” on the ALS website.

Thanks to everyone that helped in Central’s challenge! We hope you enjoy the video.
